It’s always nice to receive a gift before the holidays. Eighteen Belgian and Dutch scientists were delighted to hear that their Proof of Concept Grant proposals had been successful.
These grants amount to €150,000 and are intended to help researchers turn lab results into potential applications. The prerequisite is that the results must stem from a project that has previously been awarded an ERC grant. The ERC aims to provide scientists with the opportunity to further explore the potential of their fundamental research through activities such as conducting validation studies or identifying opportunities for patent applications. Of the 480 applications for a PoC grant, a total of 150 were successful. Below are a few of the recipients who also have connections with chemical societies:
Koen Binnemans (KVCV member, KU Leuven)
ADONIS: Advanced conversion of sulphate salts in circular hydrometallurgy
Filip Du Prez (KVCV member, Ghent University)
BIGTOP: Breakthrough industry grade tagging of plastic products
Erik Garnett (KNCV Gold Medal winner 2022, NWO-I)
IMPLS: Intensity Modulated Photoluminescence Spectroscopy for Stable Perovskite Solar Cells
Frank Hollmann (KNCV section member Organic Chemistry, TU Delft)
BioParacetamol: A Sustainable Biocatalytic Alternative for Paracetamol Production
Timothy Noël (KNCV member, KNCV Gold Medal winner 2021, University of Amsterdam)
